THE 50th anniversary of a Sheffield fun run gets underway next week in Grenoside.
The annual Grenochase starts on Main Street, Grenoside, near the Appletree Nursery at 7pm on Friday, August 5.
To celebrate the event’s golden anniversary, the organisers have decided to break with tradition and donate all money raised to the Help a Hallam Child and Teenage Cancer Trust charities.
Grenochase treasurer Gaynor Hughes said: “We haven’t got a fundraising target or anything, because this is the first time we’ve done it, but we just thought we should do something special, and whatever we can raise for the charities is better than nothing.”
The children’s races will start on a smaller course at 5pm and will run every 15 minutes up until the adults’ 3.5 mile race at 7pm.
Around 60 adults and 40 children are expected to take part.
Prizegiving and presentations will be held on the village green at 8.30pm, where local band The Gazelles will also be playing.
