This month so far has been the coldest December in recent years with Sheffield seeing snow and freezing temperatures.

Once again this morning the city woke up to frost, but how much longer is the cold snap set to last?

As we go through this week things will gradually become milder and largely dry.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week the temperature in Sheffield will reach 10C which is above the average for the time of year.

Overnight for much of this week temperatures will remain well above freezing and ice scrapers will not be needed.

As we approach Christmas the weather outlook becomes less certain.

According to the latest forecast from the Met Office the most likely outcome at this stage is that the mild theme will continue though the weekend and into Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

However, another computer model shows freezing Arctic air enveloping the northern half of the UK bringing with it the threat of snow showers.

In summary, Sheffield looks unlikely to get a White Christmas this year but forecasters are refusing to rule it out.
