Sheffield was one of six cities across the UK chosen to host the games.

Phil and Claire Willoughby, both aged 43, took part in the one mile run through the city, along with their eight-year-old daughter, Ella.

Ella said: “I really enjoyed it, but it was very hilly and I wasn’t expecting that!”

As well as a series of fundraising activities, there was also lots of entertainment on offer in the form of belly dancers as well as performance from Sheffield musicians and dance troupes.

The event was also aimed at encouraging people across Sheffield to get fit and take part in some of the physical activities on offer across the city. South Yorkshire Sport was also on hand at the event, encouraging people to get a taste of activities such as belly dancing, ice skating and boxing.

Helen Murray, Director of Operations at South Yorkshire Sport said: “It’s been a great day, and we’ve been speaking to a lot of people, encouraging them to take part in different sporting activities.”
