Deals have been struck to keep three big events in Sheffield for the next two years.
With Don Valley Stadium set to close in September, Sheffield International Venues says it has worked with organisers to identify alternative venues to ensure events remain in the city.
The annual Windsor Foodservice exhibition in September will now take place at iceSheffield in Atterclife – and visitor numbers should almost double to 1,000 people.
The event will attract more than 120 exhibitors showing off new suppliers, food products and menus.
The English Institute of Sport meanwhile will host The University of Sheffield’s Medical Examinations.
Dr Fran Oldale, from The University of Sheffield, said EIS Sheffield had been selected because of its previous experience hosting events of a similar nature at SIV’s facilities.
And the UK’s biggest computer fair, Redrat, which had been held at Don Valley Stadium for the last 12 years, has moved to Concord Sports Centre in Shiregreen, and will take place on the first Sunday of the month until 2015.
Dominic Stokes, general manager of SIV Events, said: “Securing the long-term future of these events is part of our objectives to generate economic impact for Sheffield and profile the city, as well as of course retaining commercial benefits for SIV.
“Importantly however, for the events, it will mean they can benefit from modern flexible facilities and have the opportunity to attract greater numbers.”
