A WIDOW who lost her husband to skin cancer is preparing for her 15th year of fundraising.
Tricia Pitchfork, from Sheffield is aiming to reach the £10,000 mark when she hosts a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The 63-year-old has organised the event to coincide with Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, September 28.
Every year Tricia opens the doors of her home in Dore to friends for two hours of free refreshment.
She first began fundraising in 1998, when husband Roger was diagnosed with a melanoma. He underwent radiotherapy and initially made a recovery.
But, when the cancer recurred a decade later, treatment was less successful. Roger died aged 67 in 2009.
Tricia said: “The Macmillan nurse was with us every step of the way, from sitting with us to hear the results to always being on the end of the phone.”
To date, Tricia has raised £9,000.
“We have a great team that makes the coffee mornings successful - even the milkman leaves milk for free on the day,” she added.
