Mothers of Sheffield servicemen killed in Afghanistan have thanked people who attended a Remembrance event at the war memorial they created.

Nicolette Williams and Ann Fellows raised more than £30,000 to pay for the monument in Shiregreen Cemetery, which is in memory of their sons Senior Aircraftman Christopher Bridge and Royal Marine Lance Corporal Jamie Fellows and other war veterans buried there.

Nicolette said: “We had about 150 people there, which is more than we expected. We would like to thank members of the public, and the Scouts and Royal Marines representatives who came.”

Brennon Knight, secretary of the Royal Marines Association Doncaster branch, organised the two minutes’ silence.

Ann added: “I would like to say a big thank you to Nicolette for her hard work organising. Members of the public said how touching and down to earth our service was.”
