Sheffield firm's cafe debut in revamped property

A refurbished town house in Sheffield city centre is getting a new life as a café.

Family-owned firm Foundry Coffee Roasters, based in Nether Edge, has signed a 10-year lease on part of Wharncliffe House on Bank Street.

Wharncliffe House, built around 1885 for the Earl of Wharncliffe, has undergone a significant refurbishment programme by owners Mandale Group, including a new roof. The front of the building is Grade II listed while the upper floors have recently been converted to apartments.

Foundry will take over the ground floor, lower ground floor and basement of the building. The company currently provides coffee brewing equipment and machinery, consultancy and training services, and sells ethically-sourced, speciality coffee beans online.

Lee Newell, Foundry’s managing director, said: “In the last five years we have built a business with a fantastic reputation for quality. Now it’s time to push things forward and explore some new territory in our own café premises.”

The lease was negotiated by the Sheffield office of Knight Frank.
