Sheffield firefighters perform sell-out gig in drive for Christmas number one

Firefighters swapped their station for the stage when they performed a sell-out gig in their drive for a Christmas number one.

Thousands saw firefighters from Sheffield's Central fire station perform ‘Chip Pan’ on stage with the Everly Pregnant Brothers at Sheffield’s O2 Academy on Saturday.

The song, a parody version of the Sex on Fire hit by Kings of Leon, tells the tale of a man who sets his house alight after a night out drinking.

Fire chiefs hope the innovative approach to issuing safety advice will help reduce house fires in South Yorkshire.

With over 500,000 views of the music video online, bookmakers have slashed the odds of it reaching number one in the charts.

Cash raised from sales of the single will go to charities Age UK and Shelter.

It is available to pre-order on iTunes, Google Play Music, Amazon, Spotify and Deezer. But to give the song the best chance of reaching number one when the official Christmas chart is released, people are asked to only download the song after December 16.
