The Castleford half-back has had his loan with the Eagles disrupted by a knee injury picked up in the defeat at Barrow, but is on the comeback trail as the Eagles resume their Betfred Championship campaign following last weekend’s mini-break.

The Eagles will be keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old.

“We will have to have a good look at Cory in training,” Aston Senior said.

“We’re not sure on him yet. He has worked with Castleford and he is a little sore, so we have a look and see what happens in training before we make a final decision.”

In Aston Junior’s absence, the half-back positions have been occupied by the returning Simon Brown and Oscar Thomas.

But if Aston Jnr proves his fitness, there is a welcome selection dilemma for the Eagles coach.

Aston Snr has options in several areas against a side just two points and one place below the Eagles in the table.

Skipper Matty James will be available after shaking off a knee problem, while Shaun Pick, Josh Toole and Paddy Burns are also ready to play.

Winger Garry Lo will stay with Castleford after returning to action for his parent club last weekend, although he has been stood down from duty as he helps the police with an inquiry.
