Eagles have made progress with their unnamed investor, who has been in talks with Sheffield Council with the aim of getting the required assurances so he can complete his club takeover.

Chief Executive John Whaling said: “We have got heads of terms now which is a step forward. We are now getting great support from the council, but there is still some hoops to jump through because there is some information asked for which we have three weeks to respond. We have held a Board meeting and envisage that the majority of the things we have been asked to do, we will do. That’s the timescale we are working to and hopefully have a signature in three weeks time.”

“I think it was about speaking to the right people,” he added. “That is the big thing with the council, you have to get to the right department and those doors have been opened now, they are being as helpful as they can be. There is still a process to go through, but the investor is happy that we are being helped now.”

Meanwhile, Nathan Chappell, who announced his departure from the Eagles on Tuesday, is expected to join Oldham.
