Sheffield Eagles boss rings changes for Swinton Lions clash

Director of rugby Mark Aston looks set to make changes to his side ahead of this afternoon's Challenge Cup fourth round clash with Swinton Lions (3.30pm).

Aston, who is set for a landmark 500th game in charge of the Eagles, will be looking for a response following the defeat against Whitehaven.

The Eagles supremo looks to set to freshen up his side with George Tyson and Matt James both left out of the 19 man squad.

“We have to get the team right” Aston said. “We have to know on certain days we will have to leave players out, and give some of them a rest and we have done that already this season.”

Without league points at stake, Aston might throw in some of his squad who have yet to feature this season. He has spoken in recent weeks about giving winger Ryan Millar an opportunity after a strong finish to the 2015 campaign and this may be the time to blood him. Aston has also included prop Jack Blagbrough in his squad, another prospect who is awaiting his first opportunity of 2016 after spending the back end of last season at York.

With a young squad already at his disposal this will be a good test of his side, who have generally impressed Aston and his staff with their desire and willingness to improve. “You get enthusiasm, commitment and the will and the want,” Aston said of his group. “Their ears are open and they are taking knowledge in. You have to understand where you are with them, you accept that there will be times where you get a little frustrated with them, but you cannot have everything straight away.

“You can see amongst these players that there is a big desire for them to be the best that they can be. They are coming in for extra hours, and that is the type of thing that can go unnoticed.

“Some of them don’t think that they are quite there, so they will work extra, that is one of the pluses of having young kids around.”
