Sheffield Eagles: Aston calls for feel-good factor to continue

The Eagles host the Rams looking to officially secure Championship survival and build momentum as they prepare for four home games from the final five rounds of the 2018 season.

Aston's side currently sit one place and one point over the Rams in the table, and hold the psychological advantage of a recent victory over Neil Kelly's side after a dramatic 30-28 success at the OLP back in July.

After a tense victory which all but secured their survival against Swinton last time out, Aston is asking his side to use the elation brought about by their late victory, as they look for a strong finish to what at times has been a tough season for his troops.

'The lads were very excited, emotional and happy after the Swinton game,' Aston told The Star.

'They really showed their emotions and we want to take that momentum forward now into these final five games of the season.

'They were delighted with the win because we had spoken about how important the game was, and we knew that we needed to win it to more or less secure of aims.

'There was a lot of relief around and a lot of happy faces. They were very vocal on the way back on the bus, they were enjoying themselves which is great.

'They have been under the pump, but now we are into the final stretch of the season so it was nice for them to show that bit of feeling.

'The season is not done though. We want to finish as high as we possibly can.'

Aston is without versatile full-back Corey Makelim after his shoulder problem was deemed severe enough to rule him out for the rest of the season.

The Eagles have been short on numbers in recent weeks which has seen a number of players asked to play out of position, but opportunities have also been created with the likes of Simon Brown grasping his chance with both hands.

'We have only got a tight squad and we have literally been down to our last 17 players,' he added.

 'We have a squad of players and at times you have to utilise all of your squad.'
