Sheffield Eagles aiming to Bash London Broncos

The Eagles were put to the sword during the inaugural event in 2015 as Andrew Henderson’s Broncos pulled off a 46-6 victory.

Aston’s side were firm favourites last season with London suffering an indifferent campaign. This time around it is the Eagles who are striving for consistency, whist Henderson’s side are sitting pretty just behind Leigh Centurions at the summit of the Kingstone Press Championship.

The Broncos have had the upper hand again this season after plundering 56 points at Bawtry Road in another heavy defeat for the Eagles, with Aston confirming there is a ‘score to settle’.

“We have got a bit of a score to settle from last time that’s for sure,” Aston conceded. “We went to Blackpool last year and we were embarrassed. The one team that has really put us to the sword this season is London.

“I think we have been in most of the other games.”

Once again all 12 teams are in action at Bloomfield Road over a two day weekend, with the Eagles set for a 2.30pm start this afternoon.

The Saturday bill also features the heavyweight showdown between Bradford Bulls and Leigh Centurions in a bumper day in front of the Sky cameras.

Aston is looking for his side to steel the show and believes that last week’s display will give his side the belief that they can challenge the division’s best.

“We want to put our foot forward and really kick on for the second half of the season,” he added. “We need to go into the game on Saturday with the same attitude and intensity as last week, and we need to come away with a result.”

“We could have so easily have won last week, so there is no reason why we can’t on Saturday.

“It has been all hands on pump in terms of preparation, we will have a smile on our faces because we have found some belief and confidence. We need to back up the Bradford performance with a really strong showing against a very good London team, because this next month or so is very tough.”

There are three more games to follow on Sunday with the weekend concluding with Halifax against Featherstone Rovers.
