Sheffield Eagles: 2017 fixtures announced

Uncertainty may still surround the future of Sheffield Eagles but they at least know where they will be heading on the opening day of next season.

The Eagles face a trip to Oldham Roughyeds on February 5 to begin the new Championship campaign, an occasion which looked doubtful just a few weeks ago due to a lack of funding for the club.

Mark Aston’s side are currently searching for a home base for the coming campaign after being assured of financial support from a ‘sponsor’ to see them through the coming campaign.

Wherever they agree to play, they know they will be welcoming French side Toulouse Olympique in their first home game, provisionally booked in for February 12.

Toulouse steamrollered their way to 13 wins and one draw from 14 games in League 1 last season, losing only in the first stage of the play-offs before recovering to beat Barrow Raiders in the final to secure promotion. The Eagles are booked in for a return trip to Toulouse on May 20.

Their biggest test of the season is set to come on March 5 when they travel to Hull KR who were relegated from Super League last term.

The Magic Weekend has pitted the Eagles against Swinton Lions in Blackpool on May 28.
