The team of eight girls, aged eight and nine, won the Sheffield Inter City League last autumn and bagged their place at the South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Finals. The event saw them compete against pupils from schools in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley in a challenging 1.5 miles race. Dobcroft’s Year 5 and Year 6 boys also triumphed at the finals taking second place in cross-country. Commenting on the girls’ win, mum and personal trainer, Claire Sanderson said: “We’re so proud of all the youngsters who took part in the event – it was a thrilling race! Sport is such a key part of the curriculum and it’s great to see so many children taking part and enjoying the benefits that group exercise can offer.”
