Sheffield dance couple's vintage moves for Valentine's

Dancing can easily lay the foundations for romance - as Christine Ventour and Ivan Moore know through personal experience.

Love blossomed for the couple, from Totley, when they met at a salsa class six years ago at the Cubana bar in Sheffield city centre.

Since then they have formed a partnership called All MoVe, leading dance sessions at Dore and Totley United Reformed Church to spread the word about the benefits of music and movement.

Now Christine and Ivan are embarking on a new venture, where vintage fashions and music from bygone eras will be the order of the day.

The Vintage Valentine Dance Night is happening on Saturday at Abbeydale Sports Club in Dore - and Christine said the response has been ‘very favourable’ so far.

People don’t just want to go to bars and restaurants, they want to dance - but not necessarily in a disco environment. We want to give people a flavour of swing, jive, rock and roll, cha cha cha, foxtrot and a sprinkling of the waltz.”

The musical accompaniment will range from sounds of the 1940s to current hits. Dancers are also encouraged to dress in 1940s and 50s outfits.

“We want to celebrate all that was good about that era including the wonderful feel of social dancing,” Christine added.

Before setting up All MoVe, Ivan was a higher education consultant, while Christine worked with charities, helping organisations to access funding. As well as their home in Totley, the couple also have a property in the Dordogne region of the south of France. They spend up to three months a year on the continent, and hope to launch dance classes in France soon.

“Dancing is an unspoken language we can communicate with,” said Christine.

The event runs from 8pm to 12.30am and is aimed at people aged 35 to 70. Tickets £8. Visit www.all-move.com, email [email protected] or call 07793 403 969 for details.
