Sheffield cyclist fighting for life after hit-and-run crash

A 29-year-old cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital today after being seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision in Sheffield.

The man was cycling along Andover Street, Burngreave, near to the junction with Spital Hill, when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle last night.

It happened at just before 11pm and the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene.

An abandoned car, a red Daewoo Matiz, was later recovered by police from a wooded area in Somerset Road, close to the scene of the crash.

South Yorkshire Police said they believe the vehicle may have been involved in the collision.

The man, who is from Sheffield, remains in hospital today with ‘life-threatening injuries’.
