Sheffield Council will ‘consider’ being involved with the Tour de Yorkshire next year.
Sheffield featured in the Tour De France in 2014 - which brought thousands of people and a major economic boost to the city - but did not bid for the follow-up Tour de Yorkshire earlier this month. Now organisers have started discussions with councils to plan the 2016 race.
Leigh Bramall, Sheffield’s cabinet member for business, said all events were ‘evaluated’ on their economic benefit.
He added: “The Tour de Yorkshire is a new, five-year, event and we are keen to see if it can help us deliver our objectives.
“We see cycling as playing a very big part in Sheffield’s future and will of course consider the race.”
