VIVA Sheffield Wednesday – and viva Mexico.
Amy Garland, aged 19, and 20-year-old Terri Williamson were third year apprentices with Wednesday’s community programme when they were given the chance to coach in Mexico for 10 months.
The Sheffield girls, who are part way through their time abroad, travelled back to South Yorkshire for a short break and visited Hillsborough to tell everyone about their adventure.
Employed by a firm called Sport Concepts, the pair are based in Mexico City and take charge of PE lessons for children aged four to 18 at an English-speaking private school.
Amy said: “We are making the most of our time in Mexico and exploring during school vacations, travelling as far as Acapulco, Monterrey and Cancun.
“So far it’s been really good. We’ve learned so much as coaches and have also learned more about ourselves. This experience is something that will stay with us forever.”
Marcus Brameld, Owls head of community, said: “It’s fantastic to hear that two of our apprentices have taken up such a fantastic opportunity, to not only improve their coaching abilities, but to see the world.
“I would like to wish both Amy and Terri all the best for the rest of their time in Mexico City.”
