Around 30,000 Sheffield school pupils have received free swimming passes as a reward for their high attendance.

The primary and secondary school pupils received their passes from Sheffield International Venues, which runs facilities including Ponds Forge and Hillsborough Leisure Centre.

Children who achieve their school’s target attendance during the spring and summer terms combined will receive a free ice skating pass to be used over the summer at SIV’s iceSheffield.

Tracey Naylor, Senior Learning Mentor at Rivelin Primary School, said: “The scheme has been a brilliant way of engaging with children.

“The school has already seen a significant improvement in our already high attendance.

“Before the project we’d never had a scheme which rewarded and gave prizes to children for their attendance quite like this.”
