Sheffield charity urges people to '˜wear a woolly' to keep other warm

The Cathedral Archer Project in Sheffield city centre wants kind hearted people to donate cash to wear a woolly jumper, hat, knotted socks or cardigan on Friday, February 12.

It wants to raise £10,000 through the new appeal to go towards the £500,000 a year it costs to run the Archer Project, which provides food, support and access to medical care to those on the streets.

A charity spokesman said: “Snow is forecasted any day now but luckily for us we have a warm home to go to but for the homeless people we help February is a tough month and support is needed more than ever.

“Please join our ‘Wear a Woolly’ Day on Friday, February 12. Rummage through your wardrobe to find your favourite jumper, knitted hat or even woolly socks, make a donation and help us to keep homeless people warm in the bitterly cold winter months.

“We want to get as many people involved as possible. Please encourage your friends, colleagues, school, department or office involved and help us to make a difference to the lives of people living on the streets.

“This year we are being ambitious and setting our target at £10,000. It costs £500,000 a year to run our project and this covers everything from paying the bills and rent, providing hot meals, shower and laundry facilities as well as the salaries of our amazing project workers.”

The Archer Project provides a free breakfast to the homeless at its Campo Lane base.
