Sheffield charity receives £12,000 donation

Worthwhile Occupational and Recreational Krafts Limited, which runs a training centre in Bents Green for teenagers and adults with learning difficulties, received the cash boost from the Spirit of Sheffield Trust, which provides support to children in need, hardship or distress as well as to the sick, handicapped and infirm.

The money is to be used to buy and build a log cabin to be sited beside the charity’s current premises in Ringinglow Road.

The cabin will provide multi-functional space for the young students to carry out activities sewing and reading.

It will also provide a peaceful and calming retreat away from the charity’s busy workshops for those in need of space and some quiet time.

Work Ltd operates a small garden centre, which is open to the public, where students manufacture bespoke garden furniture and household products.

Students also receive training in basic literacy and housekeeping skills including cooking and laundry.

They are also taken outside the centre to experience pubic transport, shopping and other social activities to help them cope with life in the community.

The charity also runs a cafe, The Hidden Gem, where proceeds are reinvested to fund its projects.

Spirit of Sheffield trustees Paul Grogan and Jonathan Robinson presented their £12,00 cheque to Work Ltd manager, Glynis Philliskirk, who was accompanied by some of the charity’s students.

A Work Ltd spokesman said: “The organisation offers hands­-on work projects to develop life skills for people, aged 16 plus, with learning disabilities.

“We give our grateful thanks to the Spirit of Sheffield for their donation.”
