The world-renowned fighter had to appear in court to answer a speeding offence after creeping over the limit on a Sheffield road.

The IBF welterweight champion, who appeared under his full name Ezekiel Brook at Sheffield Magistrates' Court, admitted driving his Land Rover Discovery at 35 mph in a 30 mph zone on Halifax Road, Wadsley, on January 20, 2016.

Brook, aged 30, of Ecclesall Road South, Whirlow, admitted the offence and was ordered to pay a total of £140 in costs.

He was also given three penalty points on his licence.

The Star understands the matter came to court after Brook failed to respond to letters sent to him.

Brook has until December 21 to pay the fine.

After his court appearance, the champion boxer who is eyeing an all-British clash with Amir Khan, later appeared as a special guest to open the revamped Wisewood Sports Centre on Laird Road on Wednesday.

A plaque was unveiled by the boxing star alongside the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Coun Denise Fox, to mark the opening of the new centre.

The Star contacted Brook's representatives at Matchroom but said they were not available to comment at this time.
