At an age when some people are thinking of moving into care homes, a Sheffield woman is still working in one.
Margaret Gillott, who works as an activity co-ordinator at Midhurst Road residential care home in Foxhill, Sheffield, is 80 years old.
She spends 12 hours a week at the home, run by Sheffcare, and celebrated her birthday with fellow colleagues.
Margaret, who lives in sheltered accommodation near the home, said: “I love my job even though I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to keep on.
“But even when I do retire, I’m sure I’ll want to keep on working as a volunteer - it’s what helps keep you active.”
Midhurst manager Dianne Flynn said: “The incredible thing is that Margaret didn’t even start working with us until she was 74.
“Before that she had been the personal assistant to an elderly lady and she had enjoyed that so much that she thought she’d like to try working in a care home.
“She is so lovely, you can feel the care coming out of her and the compassion. It’s a real pleasure to have her here as part of the team. Midhurst wouldn’t be the same without her.”
