Sheffield care home praised by inspectors
A Sheffield residential care home has won the praise of the Care Quality Commission.
Inspectors visited the Castelayn home on Leighton Drive, Gleadless, one of ten sites run in the city by not-for-profit organisation Sheffcare.
And the inspectors rated services good in all five main areas – safety, efficiency, caring, responsiveness and leadership.
“People spoken with were positive about their experience of living at Castelayn,” the inspectors said.
“They told us they felt safe and they liked the staff and relatives spoken with had no concerns regarding their relative’s care – they told us they knew staff well and they were always kept up to date with any news.
“One relative told us: ‘This place is amazing. You hear all these horror stories but there’s nothing like that here. The staff are brilliant. They keep us in touch all the time about how they are and it’s a complete open door. I’ve come in very early in the mornings sometimes and they don’t mind a bit.
“I’ve been told that I can come in whenever I want and at any time that I want.’”
Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Black said: “The comfort and safety of our residents is central to all our services and this latest report demonstrates quite clearly that we are reaching a high standard in every area required.”
She added: “A report of this standard is a tribute to every member of the Sheffcare team and proves again that they all go the extra mile to ensure of residents and their families are happy with the care and support they receive.”
Healthcare professionals also spoken with by the inspectors said they had no concerns about Castelayn.
Staff questioned by the inspectors confirmed they had been provided with safeguarding vulnerable adults training so they had an understanding of their responsibilities to protect people from harm.
They were also clear of the actions they should take if they suspected abuse, or if an allegation was made so that correct procedures were followed to uphold people’s safety.
“We saw people received care in a timely manner and staff were visible around the home, supporting people and sharing conversation,” the inspectors wrote.
