The 36-year-old, from Hillsborough, spent Saturday at Meadowhall signing up shoppers for the fundraising events.

Mum-of-two Jennie was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2014, just two days before her 35th birthday.

She underwent chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiotherapy in a bid to beat the disease.

That year her family, friends and colleagues at insurance firm Aviva entered a team, known as ‘Plant’s Pots’, into Race for Life’s Pretty Muddy event at Clumber Park, raising thousands of pounds.

“Although I couldn’t take part as I was having chemo, I was there on the day to cheer them on. I was thrilled and honoured that they raised several thousands of pounds,” said Jennie.

“I kept active throughout my treatment, which helped me get through it better that I could have hoped for. So the following year, on my 36th birthday, I joined the team myself and took part in the Clumber Park Pretty Muddy in June.”

The team has signed up this year’s event Tough Mudder event in Clumber Park on July 2.

Jennie added: “It is thanks to research I’m still here. That’s why I’m calling on the brave ladies of Sheffield to join me and the ‘Plant’s Pots’ at the Race for Life starting line this year, united with us in our aim to beat this devastating disease.”
