SHEFFIELD BUSINESS AWARDS: Sports, Hospitality and Tourism

Bramall Lane is one of the oldest professional stadiums in the world and holds a unique place among Sheffield’s major venues.

The club has, even during challenging times, held an average of between 18,000 and 20,000 fans attending over the course of the last five seasons.

The stadium’s central position in the country means many fans make the journey to Sheffield and utilise eateries, pubs, bars, shops and other facilities.

This boost to the economy is invaluable to both national chains and to independent businesses throughout Sheffield.

This level of business means the creation of both seasonal and permanent roles for Sheffield people at Bramall Lane.

There are around 100 full-time staff performing a wide variety of roles, ranging from tradesmen to administration, retail, catering roles and many others.

The club also provides opportunities across the business to university students with high-quality placements and projects.

A number of students have part-time jobs in the ticket office, in stewarding and the retail side of the business.

Students work on the football side of the business as part of the sports science framework.

Their relationship with Levy restaurants Ltd, means matchday staff are recruited seasonally to work in hospitality areas, supplying the food and refreshments that fuel every football fan.

Over the next two years, the club is dedicated to securing promotion.

The achievement will bring financial rewards for club, community and city as a whole.

The second challenge is to maximise revenue from the ground.

The hotel and stadium has superb conference facilities that are easily accessible from all major arterial routes in and out of the city, as well as by rail and tram.
