Sheffield buses diverted following major gas leak

Buses in a Sheffield suburb are being diverted this morning following a major gas leak.

Stagecoach Yorkshire said its number 88 service will not be serving Sicey Avenue and Hatfield House Lane due to a gas leak discovered in the early hours.

A police cordon is in place and Stagecoach buses are being diverted along Nethershire Lane, Hartley Brook Road, Barnsley Road, Stubbin Lane and North Quadrant to avoid the police cordon.

Bus company First's 75 and 76 services are terminating at Firth Park due to the leak and its 35 service towards Meadowhall is using Elm Lane, Barnsley Road, Stubbin lane and Firth park to and from the city.The leak on Hatfield House Lane is close to the junction with Bellhouse Road.

A number of homes have been evacuated as a precaution and South Yorkshire Police has warned members of the public to avoid the area.
