A burglar who broke into student accommodation in Sheffield has been jailed for three years.

Glenn Thackray, of Fairbarn Drive, Stannington, broke into flats in Edward Street in Sheffield city centre last month.

He claimed he had been waiting for a man he knew but that he had looked around for things to steal.

South Yorkshire Police said nothing was stolen during the break-in.

Detective Sergeant Mark Cockayne said: “Any kind of burglary is an extremely intrusive crime. Luckily, nothing was taken during this incident and I’m pleased that the people living in the building did not have to endure having personal items taken from them."
