Sheffield bridal wear shop celebrates curves

A Sheffield bride who struggled to find a wedding dress over size 16 has found success after setting up her own business.

Jane Burbeary opened Celebrating Curves Bridal, in Beighton, when she spotted a gap in the market. A job in the bridal industry hadn’t featured in Jane’s plans for a career until she got married herself, and realised that buying a wedding dress of size 16 or over in the UK was not easy.

Most major cities in Britain lack the type of service that Jane has to offer - bridal shops have declined over the years, with high street stores closing down and being replaced by online competitors. The ones that are around don’t offer the specialist service that Jane is providing.

Jane is hoping to grow her business, expanding into bridesmaids, mother of the bride and occasion wear.

She received support from the council’s Business Sheffield scheme in launching the shop. So far this year the programme has run more than 180 workshops for over 800 entrepreneurs and small business owners in the city.

Jane said: “My advice to anyone wanting to start up their own business would be find something you are passionate about and you will never work another day in your life.”
