Sheffield boxing: Super-slimmer Christian Kinsiona ready to win his first title this weekend

The Sheffield light heavyweight takes on Harry Matthews, from York, for the vacant Central area super middleweight title.

Like most boxers, he has had to make sacrifices to make the weight.

But he has tweeted: "Imagine starving a lion for eight weeks and then letting it out of its cage. Well I'm that lion on the 28th September... I'm going to eat."

Cutting the categories is something the Heeley fighter has absolutely excelled at in the last couple of years.

His trainer Grant Smith say he has lost around four stones in the year he has had him at the Steel City gym in Darnall.

And over the past couple of years, he thinks the fighter has lost a total of six.

"We have chipped away at his weight and he is a monster now" said Smith.

"He started out as a heavyweight and has stuck to the diets I have given him and been very dedicated.

"He's not had it easy; he works in a call centre and has to train around working there."

Kinsiona, aged 28, who has a 6-1-1 record, will be favourite to beat Hardy, 30, who has lost twice as many as he's won (15-30-2.)

But Smith is wary of the threat the York man brings.

"He doesn't turn up unless it's a title fight - but then he certainly does.

"Matthews beat (Barnsley's) Ben Davies, who was the home fighter, and only lost to (Dronfield's) Lewis Taylor by a point.

"But it would mean the world to Christian to win this title. He is a good come-forward fighter and we have also  been working on a Plan B (in his style.)

"If he wins, we'll be waiting to see what his promoter Stefy Bull can come up with."

The Kinsiona v Matthews fight shares the bill with two Sheffield rivals who compete for the vacant Central Area welterweight title.

Anthony Tomlinson, 27, takes on Jayce Dixon, 35, at the Magna Centre, Rotherham.

Other local boxers on the bill include Razaq Najib, Callum Hancock, Muma Mweeba, Nathan Hardy and Nicolie Campbell.
