Reagan Denton, aged 37, was once one of the most promising boxers on the Sheffield scene and is now the driving force behind a new community boxing club used by youngsters.

Now there is to be a coffee morning, with free mince pies, Christmas music and more, at The Hood gym on Prince of Wales Road in Manor next Monday, December 21.

Reagan said: “We are hoping to spread a bit of Christmas spirit and bring the community together because nobody seems to do anything.

“We thought if we could have a coffee morning with some mince pies it would get people talking and they may even want to end up helping out.”

Visitors will also be able to use a snooker table at the gym, which was donated by Sheffield firm City Taxis, from 11,30am until 1pm on Monday.

Supplies for the event have been donated by Sheffield supermarkets.

The gym in the former Prince Edward School building has 100 members and was awarded £7,700 from South Yorkshire fire chiefs to buy equipment.
