Sheffield boxer is living the dream

Adam Etches likes boxing at Sheffield's Ingle gym so much he has made something of a personal statement...buying a house just over the road.

Suddenly, with his neighbours including the Ingle family, Kid Galahad, Leigh Wood and Jordan Gill - there isn’t much time left for anything other than boxing, eating and sleeping. “That’s the way I like it - after all, boxing is my life” he says,

“I bought the house in Wincobank so training could literally be on my doorstep, which makes it all the more easier.

“I love it. It means I can get in earlier and train longer and organise things like eating so much quicker and easier after I’ve finished. Training at the EIS didn’t work out like I’d hoped for, but now I work with Dom Ingle, who is very good at what he does.

“His biggest attribute is that he knows what boxes to tick with each fighter, how to speak to them, what tactics to employ.

“My mindset is different now, I am thinking more about what is coming back in the ring rather than just what I am throwing. I don’t want to just be thinking about taking somebody’s head off. Before I got floored (against Sergey Khomistsky) I had never considered what it would be like to be hit.

“Now I know everybody poses a threat.

“Fitness and sparring-wise I am the best I have ever been, it’s all spot-on.”

Etches, 25, will need to be spot-on as a big date awaits him a week today. He is in a 12-rounder for the WBA International title fight against Brazilian Jefferson Luiz De Sousa, 34, on the Kell Brook v Kevin Bizier undercard.

“Mine will be a tough fight, they all are for titles. He is not going to come all the way here to be a walk-over.

“I have had more notice than him and I’ve been concentrating solely on this date for sometime, so hopefully that will be one advantage.”

“I don’t care which belt it is, I just want it as a step towards being a world champion. That has never changed.

“Now I will let my fists do the talking on March 26.”
