Sheffield boxer '˜has to improve' to reach Kell Brook status

Adam Etches is not getting carried away with his form - and says he still has much to improve on.

Sheffield’s ‘Birley bomber’ has beaten two opponents since losing his unbeaten record 12 months ago to Sergey Khomitsky.

His stoppage of Zoltan Sera on Kell Brook’s undercard last weekend hasn’t persuaded him he’s ready for the elite fights though.

“My goal remains to be a world champion, as Kell is now. I know I am not ready for it just yet. My second to last fight that I lost showed I have got a lot of improving to do. But I am working hard, willing to make adjustments and do whatever it takes to get there.

“I have taken a backward step, come back down to earth. They are all tough these opponents, but I have got to be showing improvements and before I am going to be calling anybody out.”

Etches called Sera a dirty opponent, saying he knew he would be the target for head-butts. “He only worried me once and that was just before I stopped him.”

*Etches and Brook are taking part in a 24-hour treadmill run, at Napoleon’s Casino, Owlerton, from 3pm Saturday to raise funds for injured fighter Nick Blackwell.
