A bar manager at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium is gearing up to go coast-to-coast for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Richard Allsop will pedal 155 miles across the country in 15 hours.

The 44-year-old, from Glapwell, near Chesterfield, is taking on the challenge on June 27 after his mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer. He will be joined by 30 fellow members of Bolsover District Cycling Club.

He said: “My wife, Rebecca, and I, along with my stepdaughter, Ruth, decided to each set ourselves a challenge to raise money for Macmillan, as we knew that they would provide invaluable help to our family.”

Rebecca, 43, and Ruth, 17, will complete the Great North Swim in June.
