A historic Sheffield band is urgently appealing to people to help them secure funding to the tune of £5,000.
Loxley Silver Band is hoping to win the cash from the OneFamily Foundation to buy much-needed and new percussion instruments for the first time in its long history.
But members must secure at least 600 votes through an online system by the end of the month to secure the funding.
Stuart Young, concert secretary and marketing manager at Loxley Silver Band, said: “In the 126 years that the band has been going we’ve never had a proper percussion.
“We’ve had drum kits and other bits but what we are talking about having is proper, high quality and concert standard percussion.
“What we would like to do with the money in particular is buy a set of tubular bells – and they cost a lot of money on their own.
“We don’t get big pots of money coming along that often, but we can have this funding if we get enough votes for it from the community.
“We really hope that people in Sheffield will be able to support us by spending two minutes voting online.
“This equipment – if we are able to buy it – will be used for years and years and will be used by our training band.
“All current and future band members and audiences for many decades to come would benefit from the project.”
So far the band – which has around 40 players – has around 250 votes secured.
The money would also be used to purchase a glockenspiel and stand, cymbals and smaller percussion items.
They would be used to perform at many charity and community events around the city and it is hoped they would help to attract new members.
