Sheffield artist Pete McKee asks for old snaps

Sheffield shoppers took a step back in time to help city artist Pete McKee by sharing photographs of them as children during the six week holidays.

Pete is preparing to host a new exhibition - 6 Weeks to Eternity - at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham on May 14 and 15.

It will take visitors down memory lane as they view old photographs showing what life was like for South Yorkshire families when schools broke up for summer in bygone years.

Pete’s team took over a stall at the Moor Market in Sheffield last weekend, for shoppers to bring along their snaps to be scanned into a computer ready for exhibiting next month.

The first 100 people to visit the stall with their photographs received a special 6 Weeks poster signed by Pete.

They brought snaps of them on the beach and on family days out.

The artist said: “6 Weeks to Eternity will tell the story of those long summer holidays off school, whether they were spent at home, bored and getting up to mischief, or on holiday at the coast with the family.

“We were delighted that so many people got involved at our Moor Market event to share their own personal stories and photographs with us ahead of the exhibition, so we can make it really personal and take people down memory lane.”
