Artist Pete McKee is set to launch ‘6 Weeks To Eternity’ – a celebration of one of everybody’s favourite childhood memories, the six weeks summer holidays.

In advance of the two-day show in May, he is asking for the public to contribute and share their special memories so they can play a part in the exhibition.

He is asking the public to submit, pictures and videos for the exhibition at Magna Science and Adventure Centre which will be transformed into a ‘into a holiday destination like no other.’

Mr Mckee said: “As the school bell rang out for the final time of the year, a mass exodus of kids, high on the prospects of the coming weeks of freedom, away from the drudgery of homework, learning and exams. We filed out of school, blinking into the bright sunshine and the dawn of the promised land. A whole six weeks of doing everything and nothing. We were about to be cast off from the shackles of authority and parental guidance and sent onto the streets. We were to be feral for the summer.

“6 weeks to eternity will be the story of those lost weeks. How we survived, how we enjoyed, how we endured and how we suffered the inevitable boredom of six whole weeks off school. This is the story of the six weeks holiday.”

“We are keeping much of the exhibition a close secret until it opens but I am really looking forward to completely transforming Magna into a holiday destination like no other and hope as many people as possible will come on holiday and experience these memories with me.

“In the meantime, if anyone has any stories to share about holidaying by the British coast or staying at home and getting up to mischief, I would love to hear from you.”

To submit, a story, email your photo or video and description of maximum 100 words to [email protected] and they will be featured on the website, 6weeks.co.uk, which has been created especially for the exhibition. The website will also be where updates and sneak previews of the event will appear first.

The exhibition will be on display for two days only at Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May 2016.
