Sheffield and South Yorkshire hotter than Athens and Rome as temperatures soar

Sheffield is enjoying a mini-heatwave today as temperatures climb higher than Athens and Rome.

Sunshine and clear skies has meant peak temperatures of 13.6 degrees Celsius in the city as of 2pm today.

That is higher than Athens in Greece, which managed 12.8 degrees at the same time, and the positively arctic 11 degrees in Rome, Italy.

The rest of South Yorkshire has also enjoyed the sun, with temperatures of 13 degrees in Rotherham and 12.7 degrees in Barnsley.

Doncaster has truly sizzled, with a recorded temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius.
