Sharks won't take bottom side Surrey lightly

The Sharks tip-off against the Surrey Scorchers at the EIS this evening and visit the Bristol Flyers on Sunday following an impressive first home win of the season against Manchester Giants.

The 80-67 victory came after the Sharks were left two men light on their roster by the departures of Shaheed Davis and Robert Poole earlier in the day.

And despite the Scorchers’ winless start, Lyons says his ever-improving side will be taking no chances as they look to secure back-to-back victories for the first time in 2016/17.

“Surrey are a good team,” says Lyons. “They’ve had some tough losses against some good teams. They’re a very good side so I don’t think they’re going to be languishing down the bottom.

“Bristol have retained a lot of guys and they’ve added some key players, and they’re always a very good home team.

“It was tough losing Rob and Shaheed but we’ve got to go through the processes. It’s just unfortunate it’s taken longer than normal.

“Manchester was a great win but we’ve got to keep an eye on getting better and keep focusing.”

Impressive performances from Tony Wroblicky and Kyle Odister helped the Sharks to victory against the Giants, but Lyons insists that consistency will be the key going forward.

“Tony’s a very good basketball player. He’s has a nice touch and he’s a very good passer, which he showed against Manchester with six assists.

“Kyle just has to be more consistent - it was good to see what he can do last weekend, he’s looking a lot more comfortable.

“It was just good to see a little more of a team effort and guys not trying to do too much on their own. But the next game is what you’re judged on, so we’ve got to keep our brains on the ball.”
