Share your tales of the River Don

Don Catchment Rivers Trust is inviting members of the public to bring their stories, along with old photographs, to the meeting next Tuesday, held as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded ;Living Heritage of the River Don’ project.

The opening evening begin with an update about the project – including how the Trust is helping Salmon to return to the river and how volunteers have been improving the riverside.

Following the project progress update, there will be an informal session over tea and biscuits for people to chat about their memories of the Don and tell their tales.

Rachel Walker, the Trust’s community engagement officer, said: “Do you remember playing at the River Don as a child or did you work on the river? How has the river changed over the years?

“A big part of the Living Heritage of the River Don project is to re-connect people and communities to the river, and this will include a heritage walking trail with accompanying leaflet, website, information points and audio trails.

“The Trust are very keen that this should include people’s memories and local knowledge of the river so we decided to hsot this opening evening to hear people’s memories stories firsthand.”

The open evening will be taking place next Tuesday from 6pm to 7.30pm at the Trust’s offices at St Catherine’s House, on Tickhill Road in Balby. People are encouraged to bring along any items that they wouldn’t mind sharing as part of the project.
