A MAN who was jailed after paying £45 for sex with an underage girl has had his prison sentence cut by judges at the Court of Appeal.

Mario Mendez Machado, aged 35, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years’ imprisonment at Sheffield Crown Court in August for paying for the sexual services of a child and harassing his ex-wife.

But after an appeal judges Lord Justice Laws, Mr Justice Simon and Mr Justice Lindblom cut the sentence to three years.

Lord Justice Laws said Machado, from Sheffield, already had a string of convictions to his name when he befriended a 15-year-old girl and paid her for sex at his then home in Saxonlea Crescent, Manor.

He also harassed his estranged wife, who had left him following several incidents of drunken domestic abuse, involving punching her and grabbing her throat, he said.

His lawyers argued the 18-month harassment sentence was too long and cut it to a year.

The two-year sentence for the sex crime still stands.
