Setting a bad example

The subject of litter has been mentioned several times in The Star recently.

While many of us have been brought up not to discard litter on the streets, unfortunately there will always be exceptions, an example of which I witnessed today near a supermarket at Hillsborough.

A man aged around 40 was walking along, eating a sandwich.

Some of the wrapping dropped, or was dropped, on the floor.

A lady supermarket employee also saw this, leading to the following conversation:

LADY: Excuse me, you’ve just dropped something.

MAN: Oh, it’s only a bit of paper.

LADY: So you’re not going to pick it up then?

MAN: No.

LADY: May I ask why?

MAN: Because I’m not bothered.

I will never understand the mentality of such people.
