World Women's Day of Prayer is to be celebrated in Sheffield city centre.

The event will see around three million people in over 170 countries and islands observing the day of prayer, using an order of service written by Christian women in Cuba, translated into over 60 languages and 1,000 dialects.

The service in Sheffield will take place at 11am on Friday, March 4 in the Central United Reformed Church, Norfolk Street.

This year’s theme is ‘Receive children. Receive me’ and reflects a verse in St Mark’s Gospel, which is the focus of the service.

A spokeswoman for the Women’s World of Prayer event in Sheffield said: “This is not a day of prayer just for women. Everyone is welcome to attend the service and join with us to share in our worship, at what is just one of over 6,000 such gatherings being held across the British Isles.”
