Serious collision closes major Sheffield area road in both directions

A serious collision has taken place on a major Sheffield area road - closing it in both directions.

The incident happened shortly after 6pm on the A616 Stocksbridge bypass.

The road is currently closed in both directions between the A6102 in Deepcar and the B6088 in Stocksbridge with a diversion in place through Stocksbridge.

A short time ago, Superintendent Paul McCurry of South Yorkshire Police tweeted that motorists using the bypass should 'expect delays'.

The Highways Agency said emergency services were at the scene.
