The convicted sex attacker, who has served decades behind bars, is one of nine men who claimed they had been assaulted by the pop icon, now 75-years-old.

South Yorkshire Police investigated all the claims, which came after a man contacted the force in 2014 to allege he had been abused by Sir Cliff at a Christian rally in Sheffield in the mid 1980s.

Files on four of the claims were sent to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider whether to take the allegations to court, but the original claim and four others were not referred.

On Thursday the CPS announced that no further action is to be taken against Sir Cliff, who was interviewed voluntarily twice but never arrested or charged.

The popular entertainer always maintained his innocence during the two year police probe, which cost South Yorkshire Police £800,000.

He was named after South Yorkshire Police tipped off the BBC about a pre-planned raid of Sir Cliff's Berkshire home, which was televised live.

The paranoid schizophrenic rapist who made one of the claims alleged Sir Cliff abused him at the Elm Guest House in Barnes, West London, where VIPs are said to have abused boys.

He blamed the alleged attack for turning him into a rapist.

He made his claim from a psychiatric hospital, where he is detained.
