Sell-out crowds for last Mosborough Music festival

More than 3,000 tickets were sold for this year’s event, which took place over the weekend, meaning the festival sold out on the last time at its current location.

As a new housing estate is earmarked for the former Westfield School site, off Moss Way, festival boss Steve Cowens is planning to expand and move the festival to Don Valley Bowl. Despite the planned move, Steve still intends to keep the name.

Over the course of Friday night and Saturday, fans got a top line-up, including Reverend and the Makers, Space, The Southmartins, Complete Madness, Jungle Lion, Redfaces and Bang Bang Romeo.

Also performing were Marquis Drive, Dirty Sterling, The Shanklins, Phat Bollard, Tom Hingley, The Velcro Teddy Bears, Bongo and the Soul Jar, Maybelleen, The Jackobins, Reasons to be Cheerful, James Lamb and Malarkey Affair.

Steve said: “There’s been so many great memories. But it won’t be the end of Mosborough as a festival – we will continue in the hope that our crowd understand the fact that we have to move and follow us to a new site which we have decided will be Don Valley Bowl.

“We raised just under £5,000 for charities last year and are hoping to do at least the same for this year’s charities which are Help for Heroes and Roundabout youth 
housing.”

Steve added, “We try not to be any old festival, our catch phrase is ‘we are the people’s festival with a heart’. We try to be different and really look after our crowd, we even had a marriage proposal on stage last year, thankfully she said ‘yes’.”

Past stars at the festival, celebrating its sixth year, included Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, who performed there for the first time after splitting from The Beautiful South.

Other notable performers have included Bad Manners, The Selector and The Farm, Twang, Lucy Spraggan and The Sherlocks.

Whitehornes estate agents and C&G assessments have once again sponsored the festival.

Steve said: “Thank you to everyone who came to the 2015 festival. A great day was had by a sell out crowd and we’ve received some great comments since the festival.”

Paying homage to a festival loved by so many, legend Paul Heaton, frontman of The Beautiful South, said: “In all my days I’ve never played a festival where there’s been potted meat sandwiches added to the rider, quintessentially Sheffield. It’s a great little festival, warm and friendly with a great feel to it.”
