Seeking region's footy stars of the future

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust has already welcomed 80 local children through the ranks of its ‘Future Stars Development Programme’ since it launched last September, offering them high-quality coaching from UEFA and FA qualified coaching staff.

The new 2016 season is underway now and the Trust has appealed for youngsters aged three to 11 to come and take part in sessions, being held at Clifton Community School’s all-weather facility, as well as at its Cranworth Road Campus.

Jamie Noble, the Trust’s Head of Community, said: “The upcoming year is looking bright as we continue to develop this programme.

“Our development squads have played against local teams, private academies and the RUFC Academy, which saw some of our players offered six-week trials.

“We also finished 2015 with our teams going to Leeds International Futsal Arena to play in a tournament against teams from Leeds, Manchester, Bradford and Harrogate.

“The aim and purpose of the programme is to give children of any ability, from three up to 11, the opportunity to receive the best level of coaching in Rotherham, while providing opportunities that enhance the experience of our participants.”

Coaching sessions are held at Clifton School, in Rotherham, every Saturday morning and at Cranworth Road Campus every Monday evening at a cost of £4 per child.
