The works, which are being undertaken at 26 of the city’s 48 tram stops by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and Stagecoach Supertram, will begin on Monday and are expected to be completed by mid-March.

During the seating installations, all tram stops will remain open and accessible for passengers.

A SYPTE spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be installing additional seating at selected tram stops on the Sheffield network. Seating at tram stops is something that has been requested by many of our customers, and we hope that this installation will improve comfort and customer experience on the tram network for all passengers.”

Nigel Wragg, commercial manager for Stagecoach Supertram, said: “We are delighted to be working with SYPTE to enhance tram stops by installing seating. Any initiative that improves our customers’ experience of using the tram is most welcome.”
