Seaside trains set to resume from Sheffield after landslip

RAIL services between Sheffield and Cleethorpes are being resumed – on Saturdays only.

Direct trains have been unable to run on the route since a landslide at Hatfield Colliery spoil tip in February – and the latest estimate is that the line will not reopen until September.

But, from May 25, a Saturday service will run on a diversionary route – after concerns were raised in Cleethorpes about the impact of loss of trains on summer trade.

One service a day will operate, run by First TransPennine Express, leaving Sheffield at 10.30am, with the return leaving Cleethorpes at 6.11pm.

Passenger services cannot run on the diversion in the week because it is ‘extremely congested’ with coal trains.

First TransPennine Express is also offering two-for-one tickets to Cleethorpes on the Saturday service and separate, replacement buses which run from Doncaster.
